“It's that wonderful old-fashioned idea that others come first and you come second. This was the whole ethic by which I was brought up. Others matter more than you do, so 'don't fuss, dear; get on with it.” ~Audrey Hepburn
I try to live like this. I know that I have my days, but we all get them. It’s like on of her other quotes, “[r]emember, if you ever need a helping hand, it's at the end of your arm, as you get older, remember you have another hand: The first is to help yourself, the second is to help others.” It should always be about helping others, because when you help them you help yourself, as well. It’s the joy of helping that truly should keep a person going. And you should not turn away someone you may think doesn’t deserve to be helped. There is good in everyone, even when it’s difficult to see. You may not always get recognition for what you’ve done, but that’s okay, too. You know you’ve done what you can and that’s enough for me. However, never stretch yourself out farther than you can go or you’ll find yourself trapped and feel like you’re drowning and if that does happen don’t be afraid to say so or ask for help yourself. Chances are people you’ve helped will return the favor.
