At five was when I started my acting phase. I would perform and direct Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs constantly. I had the entire movie memorized and I wasted a lot of apples. Though mom would buy me the Delicious apples, which are not delicious and worked perfectly for this. Anyway, as I said before I started Kindergarten in the fall of 1995. I remember I was always the wife/mother whenever we played house. I remember getting in trouble by a couple classmates one day when I went to build with the bricks with them. They didn't like invaders I guess. I remember losing my two bottom front teeth on the same day and Mrs. Daugherty, the teacher, let me call my mom to tell her and mom said she was coming to school. Well, I was excited so during nap time I told the classmate next to me that mom was coming. I got in trouble and had my clothespin down. That was the first and last time I got in trouble in Kindergarten. I remember the balloon letters and numbers and the songs we listened to during nap time. Never once slept, oops. I remember on the paper we filled out to introduce ourselves to our classmates, it asked what I wanted to be when I grew up...my response was to be a first grader. Just taking one thing at a time I guess. I made a new friend, Elizabeth. We decided we'd be best friends at recess so we hugged; we got in trouble. (I mean seriously, for a hug...ugh)
Then first grade rolled around. I remember that Mrs. Peterson was my teacher. I remember having our rain forest play; I was a bumble bee. Our class got in trouble twice during p.e., but I was falsely accused both times. Both times I was sitting out from being sick, but did the teacher erase my name from the board, no. It's bothered me ever since.
Between first and second grade, I believe, is when Elizabeth's mom decided to do homeschooling. We tried to several years, to my early teens, to keep the friendship going. I've gotten to talk to her a couple times the past couple years which has been nice. I don't think her mom liked me very much, but what could I do, I am who I am.
Next was second grade and Mrs. Wittington was my new teacher. Only a few of us ever continually got stickers for our charts everyday. When we filled up our chart we could turn them in for an animal eraser, pencil, or little things like that. The only few days I did not get stickers was when the teacher did not approve of my handwriting/cursive progression. It's still not very good; print is much easier. I remember going to a local, well not really local about 40 miles away, zoo and all the way home one of my classmates kept saying banner day all the way home. You see each class earned points when lining up after recess. You got points for lining up straight, being quiet, etc... At the end of each week, the class with the most points got to have the banner on the classroom door for the next week. Well, we were in the lead for once and we forfeighted because of the field trip. It did kind of stink, but we won it several times, so we made up for it. Second grade was also when I had my first birthday party. I had invited 4 classmates, but 1 couldn't find my house, so it was 3 of us. We played games and ate ice cream. When I went to school the next day I got my other present, it was a baby doll that when you held her up her eyes were open and when you laid her down her eyes would close.
I had several baby dolls. A couple years ago I gave them to my nieces, even the one I had named Baby Megan(my first baby doll, which I may have peaked at). The only doll I kept was the one I got for that birthday. To be honest I don't remember what her name is, but I kept her. Just sort of as a reminder that at one time my class didn't hate me lol.
Third grade and now Mrs. Hodel. Now, the rule was we couldn't use the handicap bathroom or it's sink without permission or some such nonsense. Well, one day we were painting and a student had tried washing the brushes in the approved sink and didn't get all the paint out, so the teacher sent me and told me to use the handicap sink, so I did. While I did, a fourth grader saw me and went and told her teacher. So I got scolded for using that sink even though I was told to use it. Did I tell her I had permission, no. I just stood there and hung my head, finished cleaning the brushes, went back to class, and vowed never to use that sink or wash the brushes again. Now I believe, third grade was when I met Sara and was the first time I loaned someone money. She wanted to buy something in the book fair. Now mom told me not to take all my money with me because someone would ask, well I didn't listen. I loaned her the money and when I got home I showed mom what I bought. She asked how much I had left, which was nothing. Now there was no way an eraser and a bookmark added up to $24. So I had to tell her the whole story and it was a mess to get the money back and needless to say Sara did not talk to me for a very long time. So much for that friend.
Alright moving on to fourth grade. The last grade at Sowers Elementary School. I remember having to go to the high school for p.e. and I remember watching my sister, Brandy, going to another class when the bell rang during our class. It never really occurred to me the age difference until I was in high school and there wasn't a younger sibling to look for in a similar p.e. class. I also remember roller skating. We had to follow lines, well it made me dizzy from concentrating and I fell and passed out. I had to roller skate on a mat for the rest of the time. I was okay with that, though I felt ridiculous in front of my class. I've only ever participated in skating once during jr. high. I hated it and that was the end of that. Anyway, Mrs. Measer(spelling?) was our teacher. She would give us Measer(sp?) money which we could turn in to redeem for various rewards for different prices. I always saved up to 40 Measer dollars, which I would turn in and help our janitor/bus driver, Dave, collect garbage and clean up the messy hallways during one of our study times. He was one of my favorite role models. He was so fun to be around. At the end of the year we took what we money we still had left and bid on whatever leftover prizes there were. I spent my last $7 on a bag of old nail polish. I knew I wasn't supposed to have nail polish so I hid the bag under my bed. Well, one day during the summer mom, Brian and I were cleaning our room and well mom found the nail polish. That wasn't exactly a fun conversation. I've always had a bad habit of biting my fingernails, still do. So mom and I made a deal. If I could not bite my nails for two weeks, then she would buy me a new bottle of nail polish. It lasted about two months. Just couldn't break the habit. I also remember breaking my arm, again. I was riding my bike and instead of hitting the car head on, I turned and ti my arm of the light. The next thing I remember I was on the ground crying. I couldn't get up. It was my left arm again though only one bone had broken that time. It was close to my elbow so the cast had to go up that part of the arm this time. Do you know how hard it is to swim and take a shower with a broken arm? I'm sure some of you do, but anyway I felt so in the way. And needless to say, I don't really ride bikes anymore. Well, actually I literally cannot ride a bike anymore. I'm worse than Brad Keselowski (and believe me, it's so funny to watch him ride his bike lol).
That was the end of that journey. Time to move onto Jr. High.
